Penn State is honoring two great teams during this year’s game against rival Pitt on Sept. 9.
The Nittany Lions will unveil the blue “2016” marker inside Beaver Stadium in recognition of last year’s Big Ten title team. The year additions — with one exception — are for Penn State teams that have won a conference title, went undefeated, or won a national title. The exception was 2012, in honor of the team that stuck with the program in the fallout from the Jerry Sandusky scandal.
But that’s not the only team Penn State will honor.
At halftime, the Nittany Lions will bring out the 1982 national championship team. Penn State beat Georgia 27-23 in the Sugar Bowl to win the national championship.
The Nittany Lions have also announced all the 2017 game themes.
