Penn State men’s lacrosse is being rewarded handsomely for its 7-0 start to the season.
The Nittany Lions are No. 1 in Monday’s US Lacrosse Magazine Poll, moving up from No. 3. This after wins against Harvard and Furman last week, and No. 16 Penn the week before that.
Freshman Mac O’Keefe and sophomore Grant Ament have starred for Penn State in this young season, with the former notching 29 goals and 3 assists while the latter posting 16 of each. O’Keefe leads the nation with 4.14 goals per game, 1 full goal ahead of the next-highest mark in the Big Ten. Ament has a slim lead ahead of Maryland’s Matt Rambo in assists per game with 2.43.
Ohio State (7-0) and Rutgers (6-0) join the Nittany Lions as undefeated teams in the Big Ten, with Michigan (7-1), Maryland (4-1) and Johns Hopkins (4-2) rounding out the six-team conference.
Penn State has its first game as the top-ranked team in the country this Friday at home against Fairfield, and will start conference play on April 2 against Ohio State.
