The postseason awards buzz has already started for Saquon Barkley. The national media is definitely noticing, too.
One week after ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit named Penn State his top-performing team of the week because of the win against then-No. 2 Ohio State, he selected Barkley his his top-performing player for Week 9.
Barkley beat out Georgia Tech’s Justin Thomas for the No. 1 individual spot.

Barkley rushed for 207 yards and 2 TDs on only 18 carries against Purdue while adding 70 receiving yards on 3 catches in the 62-24 rout. He was also named the Big Ten’s Offensive Player of the Week on Monday — the second time this season he picked up the honor. Later on Monday, Barkley was one of three Big Ten players named a Maxwell Award semifinalist.
The Barkley selection is not the first time Herbstreit praised Penn State on Monday. He had Nittany Lions coach James Franklin No. 4 on a list of coaches who were “facing pressure early in the season who have prevailed.”
No. 20 Penn State looks to keep charging ahead with Barkley when Iowa visits for a 7:30 p.m. ET Saturday kick on the Big Ten Network.
