Kicker Alex Barbir is transferring from Penn State football, according to Lions247, which reports he has asked for and been given a release from his scholarship. He is no longer on Penn State’s online roster.
Barbir figured to be the natural replacement for Tyler Davis, Penn State’s starting kicker who will exhaust his eligibility after the Nittany Lions play Washington in the Fiesta Bowl.
Without Barbir, Penn State will have junior walk-on Nick DeAngelis and walk-on freshman Carson Landis, plus incoming freshman Jake Pinegar. Here’s Pinegar hitting from 75 yards in practice:

Barbir kicked off six times in 2017, his redshirt freshman season. The 2016 recruit flipped from Rutgers to Penn State late in the cycle, and was rated as the No. 11 kicker recruit in the country by 247Sports.
