Swift included the Nittany Lions among the five teams he was considering when he cut his list in May. Clemson, Florida State, Georgia and Alabama were the others. Penn State has an in-state connection with Swift, a Philadelphia native who attends St. Joseph’s Prep.
Swift, listed at 5-foot-9.5 and 214 pounds is considered the fourth-best running back and the No. 36 player in the 2017 class, according to 247 Sports. Penn State currently has the 21st-rated class in 247’s rankings for 2017, with Clemson, Florida State, Georgia and Alabama all landing in the top 10.
Penn State and James Franklin have done well with running backs in both the 2015 and 2016 classes. Saquon Barkley, a 2015 recruit, had a breakout freshman season, while Miles Sanders was tabbed as the top running back in the 2016 class.
