A Fort Wayne, Ind. native, Hippenhammer is rated as the seventh-best 2017 recruit in his home state by 247 Sports. Hippenhammer received an offer from James Franklin and Penn State earlier this summer and took an unofficial visit to the school’s campus last month.
While 247 considers Penn State is the favorite for 6-foot receiver, he also holds offers from Iowa, Illinois, Michigan State and others. Hippenhammer also took an unofficial visit to Iowa last month.
If he does commit to the Nittany Lions, Hippenhammer will be the 15th recruit in Franklin’s 2017 class – which is currently rated 21st by 247. Penn State is hoping to continue a hot streak on the recruiting trail, as the team has picked up five verbal commits from 2017 players since July 27.
