Effner is the No. 883 player and No. 71 offensive tackle in his class, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. Penn State was Effner’s best offer; Syracuse, Minnesota, Maryland and Kansas State were among the other schools interested.
Here are some of Effner’s high school highlights. He’s listed at 6-foot-5 and 275 pounds.
Penn State’s 2018 class ranks third in the nation with 13 commits after Effner gave his verbal pledge. The Nittany Lions did lose 5-star DE Micah Parsons, the No. 3 player in the class of 2018, in April.
The Penn State class now is headlined by 5-star QB Justin Fields and 5-star RB Ricky Slade. Penn State has verbal commitments from five players listed in 247Sports’ top 85.
Effner is the third offensive lineman to commit to Penn State’s 2018 class, joining 4-star Nana Asiedu and 3-star Antwan Reed.
