As Ohio State assistant coach Tony Alford said, often times calls home to parents are for bad reasons.
This isn’t one of those times.
Before Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer officially announced redshirt freshman Mike Weber as the team’s starting running back, Alford called Weber’s parents, Mike and Toni, to let them know their son was going to be named the starter.
“The history we’ve had a running back at this place is freakish,” Alford said. “It goes way back before even Eddie George and then obviously most recently Zeke (Elliott) and Carlos (Hyde), and coach Meyer calls the running back position the Cadillac position of this school and this football program. And your son has done a great job, and so I wanted to give you guys a call and let you know today we’re going to name him the starting tailback at Ohio State.”
Weber’s father gets out some “thank you” responses, but his mother’s reaction is best described as a scream.

Meyer’s wife, Shelley, said, as a parent, the video gave her chills. Weber himself also saw the video.
