COLUMBUS, Ohio – For coach Thad Matta and the Buckeyes, last season couldn’t get put behind them fast enough.
After starting the season 18-10, Ohio State finished 21-14 and became the first Big Ten men’s team to win 11 conference games and miss out on the NCAA tournament. The Buckeyes’ season ended with a disappointing loss to Florida in the second round of the NIT and included three losses to Michigan State in their final six games.
After the final whistle blew, Ohio State was decimated by four transfers – all freshmen from their Big Ten’s best 2015 recruiting class – and the proud program seemed to be in a bit of a free fall.
After a summer of rebuilding, Matta and the Buckeyes met the media Thursday for 2016-17 media day.
The 13th-year head coach seemed optimistic about what’s to come. Check out the video above.
