Chris Holtmann could win a Big Ten title just months after Urban Meyer.

Urban Meyer is loving Ohio State basketball’s surprisingly great season

Ohio State pulled off its biggest win in years Wednesday night. The No. 14 Buckeyes went into Mackey Arena and scraped out a 64-63 win over No. 3 Purdue. It happened in a game where Ohio State trailed by 14 points in the second half, was facing a team on a 19-game winning streak and had first place in the Big Ten on the line.

The game was a signal to the college basketball world that the Buckeyes are for real in Chris Holtmann’s first year. It also showed Ohio State fans that there’s plenty to cheer about in the college football offseason.

One person in Columbus who took notice of the win was Urban Meyer. The Buckeyes’ head coach congratulated Holtmann and his team on the win and the season so far Thursday morning on Twitter.

“O-H!!! Ohio State hoops is killing it!!! Congratulations to Chris Holtmann’s program on last night’s huge win & phenomenal season — first place in the Big Ten!! Keep going!!” Meyer wrote on Twitter on Thursday morning.

At 12-1 in Big Ten play (and 21-5 overall), the Buckeyes now are in control of their destiny for a Big Ten regular season title. Not bad for a team that was picked to finish 11th in the conference.
