Ohio State coach Urban Meyer made a couple of additions to his coaching staff this week.
Former Kentucky head coach Joker Phillips is joining Meyer’s staff in Columbus, Ohio as a quality control coach, according to FootballScoop.com. Phillips led the Wildcats from 2010-12. He went a combined 13-24 during those three seasons and was ultimately fired after a dismal 2-10 campaign.
Phillips spent the 2015 season in the NFL as the wide receivers coach for the Cleveland Browns. His most recent college gig was with Florida as a wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator during the 2013 season. The 53-year-old coach has more than 25 years of coaching experience along with a three-year playing career in the NFL and Canadian Football League.
Phillips has a solid resume on the recruiting trail, and his 247Sports all-time commit list is filled with talented prospects. He should be a good addition to OSU’s staff for recruiting purposes if nothing else.
Ohio State also confirmed the hiring of Brian Knorr to the support staff. Knorr most recently coached defensive ends and outside linebackers at Indiana.
