Should Ohio State try to bring Tom Crean back to the Big Ten? One prominent college basketball voice thinks so.
Dick Vitale, the longtime ESPN color commentator, said the Buckeyes would be wasting their time going after big names such as Sean Miller of Arizona and Shaka Smart of Texas to fill the vacancy left by Thad Matta. Instead, Dickie V thinks Ohio State should “get real” and go after Crean, who was fired by Indiana in March.
A waste of time thinking Sean Miller / Shaka Smart r interested in Buckeyes job / get real go after @TomCrean https://t.co/gtHG3jcAXZ

Crean is one of the biggest unemployed names in basketball coaching. He was fired by the Hoosiers after nine seasons, two Big Ten titles and four NCAA Tournament berths. Crean, 51, spent nine seasons as Marquette’s coach before heading to Bloomington.
The Buckeyes sent the college coaching carousel into a late and unexpected spin Monday when they announced Matta was done in Columbus. Land of 10’s Ben Axelrod put together a list of potential replacements for Matta at Ohio State. It included Billy Donovan, Chris Mack and Sean Miller, but Crean was not on the list.
