The school and former head coach Mark Fox decided to part ways on Saturday and the Bulldogs are already on the hunt for a new leader.
Matta last coached with the Buckeyes in 2016/17 and went 17-15 overall and 7-11 in conference, leading to the coach retiring after the season. Before that though, since starting in 2004, he took the school to the NCAA Tournament nine times including getting into the Sweet Sixteen or farther five times.
It was reported about a week ago that the coach was interested in returning to coaching and he and former Indiana coach Tom Crean were both linked to the Bulldogs job previously.
Former Louisville coach Rick Pitino was also linked to the job.
Been hearing Rick Pitino’s name a lot from trusted sources regarding the Georgia job.
