On Monday, Sports Illustrated’s Stewart Mandel listed some teams that could have a chance at knocking off No. 1 Alabama.
When all was said and done though, he was left with one team that has the best chance at beating the Crimson Tide – Ohio State.
Why did he pick the Buckeyes? Mandel said after their 62-3 dismantling of Nebraska on Saturday, it was clear the secondary is flourishing and the offense has broken out.
Though he admitted they aren’t as good as the team that beat the Tide in 2014, he said Urban Meyer’s teams get better as the season goes along.
Mandel said if the Buckeyes can get to a game with the Tide, they have an elite coach, elite recruits and a dual-threat quarterback., which is exactly the same formula as the Tide.
Some other teams Mandel suggested were Auburn, Michigan, Clemson, Louisville and Washington.
Mandel said the Wolverines pro-style team makes for a bad matchup against the Tide.
“You’re not going to out-Alabama Alabama,” Mandel said.
