On Sunday, Team USA won a men’s freestyle World Cup.
It marked the first time the team has won one since 2003. Who helped the Americans do it?
Look no further than a couple of former Ohio State wrestlers.
Kyle Snyder and Logan Stieber combined to go 7-1 this weekend, helping clinch Team USA’s victory. The Americans defeated Azerbaijan 6-4 in the gold medal match.
Snyder went 4-0, while Stieber lost a match to Japan’s Takuto Otoguro that caused him to receive five stitches afterward. Snyder began the competition with three consecutive 10-0 victories before defeating Azerbaijan’s Roman Bakirov 14-3.
The 11-point victory clinched the USA’s eighth overall World Cup.
Snyder just finished his senior wrestling season with the Buckeyes after winning an NCAA championship. He finished his collegiate career with three NCAA titles.
Stieber competed at Ohio State from 2010-14. He was a three-time NCAA champion.
