Ohio State football used three early turnovers to gain an insurmountable lead over USC in the 2017 Cotton Bowl on Friday night. Here’s what head coach Urban Meyer had to say afterward:
“The way they act, the way they behave, the way they represent the great state of Ohio and Ohio State — the university, not just the football program. J.T.’s one of 15 guys. I love those guys. The thing is, your goal is to come into a place and leave it a little better than you came here. He did.”
How to categorize J.T. Barrett:
“An elite leader who raises the level of those around him. Raises the level of toughness, will to win, practice habits, the human spirit. I know he always says he doesn’t want to coach, but I’m not done trying to get him to coach. He should do that. He should be in a position someday, and I know he’s going to the NFL so that might be a spot for him, but God made a special one in him. A very unique guy, and he’s got a skillset I haven’t come upon often.”
On the defensive line’s performance:
“Dominating, relentless. We had 8 sacks and I believe 4 turnovers caused, I believe. Our defense was dominant. Our offense didn’t play very well, but our defense was dominant. We knew going into that game that (Darnold) obviously is going to be a top-5 pick, he’s every bit. If you let that young man sit back with all those receivers, he’ll pick you apart.”
