USC’s Sam Darnold absorbed a late hit in Friday night’s Cotton Bowl. Malik Harrison hit the quarterback out of bounds near the end of the Ohio State win, and some shoving from both sides ensued.
The resulting scuffle between both teams ended with one ejection — USC’s Jamel Cook, who left the bench to participate. The players never escalated it to anything too serious — no punches appear to have been thrown — and the game did not have any more testiness after that.
The fight broke out with just over two minutes left in a game that was already decided. That’s often when skirmishes like this happen. One team’s frustrated with its season coming to an end, and that frustration boiled over here after Ohio State’s late hit.
