The Buckeyes have caught up and passed their Big Ten East counterpart.
With the commitment of 4-star linebacker Dallas Gant, Ohio State now has the top-ranked Big Ten 2018 recruiting class in the 247Sports composite rankings. The Buckeyes, who have 10 verbal commits, jumped from No. 4 in the country to No. 2 with Gant’s pledge, leapfrogging LSU and Penn State in the process.

Penn State was bumped down to No. 3 nationally in the rankings and No. 2 in the Big Ten. The Nittany Lions have more commits than the Buckeyes (13 to 10), but Ohio State has more 4- and 5-star players. Penn State has seven players rated with 4 or more stars, while all 10 of Ohio State’s commits are either 4- or 5-star prospects.
Having the Big Ten’s best class is nothing new for the Buckeyes. Ohio State has had the Big Ten’s best-rated football recruiting class in each year since 2010, when Penn State claimed the top spot.
The Buckeyes’ recently signed 2017 class was ranked second in the country behind only Alabama.
