Ohio State-Nebraska basketball preview
Ohio State comes into the game on Monday hotter than ever, having gone nearly a full month without losing. The Buckeyes’ last defeat came against North Carolina on Dec. 23 in New Orleans. Going back to the start of December, they’ve won 12 of their last 13 contests.
“I think that’s a reflection on the players as much as anything,” coach Chris Holtmann said after the Buckeyes’ victory against Northwestern on Wednesday. “I firmly believe that. We’ve got a group that had a really good player returning from injury, and we’ve got a group that really likes each other. It’s easy to like each other when you’re on the streak that we’re on right now, but I sensed that they even liked each other when we hit some rough spots earlier this year. Our chemistry has been fantastic. I also think right now we have a hungry team. Now, we’ll see how much that continues. But that’s great credit to the leadership in our group.”
The Buckeyes could run into some trouble from a fatigue standpoint, though. The Nebraska game will mark Ohio State’s fourth game in an eight-day stretch, with the first three of those coming on the road. Meanwhile, the Huskers have played their last two games at home and haven’t played since Thursday. Ohio State (17-4, 8-0 Big Ten) has had one day in between games after facing Minnesota in New York City on Saturday. The Buckeyes showed no sign of fatigue with the way they dispatched the Gophers, but it’s something to watch for as they look to extend their unblemished Big Ten record.
