Ohio State is a 22.5-point favorite against Michigan State this Saturday, and few outside of East Lansing expect it to be a close game.
But in Urban Meyer’s first four games as Ohio State’s head coach, his team’s games against the Spartans have all been close. In fact, they’ve been identical.
In their last four meetings, the Spartans and Buckeyes have both scored exactly 104 points and each side has two wins in those games. This was first pointed out on Reddit.
Here are the scores since 2012:
2012 – Ohio State 17, Michigan State 16
2013 – Michigan State 34, Ohio State 24 (Big Ten Championship Game)
2014 – Ohio State 49, Michigan State 37
2015 – Michigan State 17, Ohio State 14
The Spartans hold an edge in total yards throughout those games, out-gaining the Buckeyes, 1,571-1,457. Ohio State totaled just 132 yards in last year’s loss.
In the last two meetings, the winner of the game has gone on to the College Football Playoff. That could be the case again this season, if the Buckeyes can pick up the win. And regardless, something’s got to give.
