Gill, Ruckert, Gillison among big visitors for junior weekend
Though we’re five days away from signing day for 2017 prospects, Ohio State is set to welcome in a handful of its highest-priority 2018, and a few 2019, prospects this weekend at junior day.
I won’t spend too much time diving into the weekend’s event – it’s an opportunity for the Buckeyes staff to start turning their attention to the next wave of recruits and give those recruits a chance to spend a thorough day at Ohio State – but will instead dive right into the biggest visitors.

Gardiner to make official visit?
As we prepare for the final recruiting weekend of 2017, there is likely to be just one official visitor at Ohio State: Kemp, Texas, 3-star wide receiver Elijah Gardiner.
The Missouri commitment has not officially announced a visit but multiple sources have indicated to Land of 10 that it is expected. A 6-foot-5, 185-pound 3-star prospect at Kemp High School, Gardiner does not yet have an offer from the Buckeyes. He was, however, visited by Urban Meyer and Kevin Wilson on Wednesday and that visit was made with one goal in mind: to persuade him to visit and take a look at what Ohio State has to offer.
If the visit occurs as expected, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Gardiner draw that offer from the Buckeyes. He’s been committed to Missouri since November.
Stay tuned to see what happens here.
Dallas Gant continues to draw major attention
Perhaps the best defensive prospect in Ohio’s 2018 class, Toledo St. John’s linebacker Dallas Gant, continues to be a hot target throughout the Midwest. Ohio State offered Gant last summer and this past week he added an offer from Michigan. He now holds scholarships from the “big four” (OSU, UM, Notre Dame and Michigan State) in the region and has made sure he’s seen his top targets multiple times.
He’s been visited in the past week by Ohio State and Penn State and is headed to Wisconsin this past weekend for a visit with the Badgers. It’s all part of the process for Gant, the country’s sixth-ranked outside linebacker. He’s got a big decision ahead of him and is looking to find the best fit, and that means beyond football.
Although he is not yet sure what he will pick for a major, Gant said individual academic programs will play a key part of his decision.
“Academics are a big part of everything, but I want to figure out what I’m going to study first, and then we’ll see what school fits that best,” Gant said. “Academics are critical part of it, and mom’s always bugging me about the academics.”
He’s visited Notre Dame more than any other school but was close to ending his recruitment in December and committing to Ohio State, according to sources close to Gant. The loss of Luke Fickell to Cincinnati meant he needed to take a step back and get to know new Ohio State linebackers coach Billy Davis. He’s recently had the chance to meet him.
“It went good,” Gant said of the meeting. “He seems like a great guy and a great coach.”
Jaylen Harris earns big Northeast Ohio honor
Recent Ohio State verbal commitment Jaylen Harris has been named the Cleveland area High School Athlete of the Year.

The 6-foot-5, 210-pound Harris was a go-to receiver for Cleveland Heights and is also a star basketball player. He committed to Ohio State on Jan. 13.

Remember the name: Okudah
We’ll end today with a small video from the Ohio State football program’s Twitter account. As they’ve done all week, the Buckeyes are featuring freshmen early enrollees with short video features.
Today, Ohio State spotlighted Jeffrey Okudah, the country’s top-ranked cornerback from Grand Prairie, Texas. Give it a watch.
