Ohio State football: Jackson Carman saga rolls on, Austin Mack cleared to play
Ohio State football is the No. 1 topic in Wake Up Sloopy every day — but we cover news, notes and analysis from across Buckeyes sports. Join us each morning to get caught up on everything you missed in the world of Ohio State football, recruiting, basketball and more.
Jackson Carman explains tweets
Jackson Carman continued his back-and-forth with Kirk Herbstreit on Thursday, but the 5-star recruit also took time to explain his perspective on the matter.
““My tweet, originally, was not to bash J.T. Barrett’s play,” Carman said. “It was simply to say, I have a friend in Dwayne Haskins and I’d like to see him play in the game. Nothing dirty toward J.T.”
He added that he didn’t like that Herbstreit assumed he’d automatically end up at Ohio State, reiterating that he might go elsewhere.
Austin Mack ready to go
Ohio State wide receiver Austin Mack was in concussion protocol after hitting his head against Oklahoma, but it appears he’s fine and ready to play.
“He’s going to practice full today,” Urban Meyer said on his Thursday radio show. “He did a good job, and we’re very cautious [with head injuries]. Great catch, and he’s going to be a heck of a player for us.”
Mack is one of the best playmakers the Buckeyes have at wide receiver, so his presence could be a boost as the offense looks to right the ship.
Players steer clear of drama
Herbstreit and Carman have gone back and forth — and so have other recruits and alumni — but Ohio State’s players have stayed out of the Twitter spats.
That’s in line with Meyer’s preference, of course, for players to think before they speak and give measured responses even if they sound like coach speak.
