Ohio State’s spring game status to be decided
Ohio State will make its final decision on the status of its 2018 spring game on Friday morning. Weather could force the Buckeyes to move the start time of the Saturday game (which is slated for a 1:45 p.m. ET kick as of early Friday morning) or to cancel the Scarlet and Gray scrimmage. A handful of teams in the Midwest, including Michigan and Wisconsin, have called off their spring games that were scheduled for this weekend.
Temperatures are expected to be in the upper 60s with a good chance for rain at 2 p.m. in Columbus on Saturday, according to AccuWeather.
Kelsey Mitchell, Stephanie Mavunga picked by Indiana Fever in WNBA Draft
Kelsey Mitchell, one of the best athletes to ever play at Ohio State, was picked second overall by the Indiana Fever in the WNBA draft on Thursday night. Mitchell scored 3,402 points in her four memorable seasons with the Buckeyes.
Mitchell’s college teammate, Stephanie Mavunga, will also be her professional teammate. The Fever picked Mavunga with the No. 14 overall pick. Mavunga averaged 16.6 points and 11.0 rebounds per game in the 2017-18 season.
Spring game visitors list
It’s a big recruiting weekend for the Buckeyes, even if the weather puts a dampens on things in Columbus. Ohio State has a loaded list of weekend visitors, including some 2019 prospects who could make their commitments in the coming weeks. Austin Mack has not quite hit his stride during his time at Ohio State. But that could all be changing this year. Land of 10’s Austin Ward elaborated on the star potential of Mack, a junior wide receiver. Remember Michael Thomas’ breakout season in 2014? Mack could be in line for a similar season in 2018.
New pairs of gold pants
Ohio State players collected their latest pairs of gold pants Thursday. The Buckeyes use the pieces of jewelry to commemorate wins over Michigan. They’ve been piling them up in recent years.
