Ohio State football: Buckeyes stay put in polls, are double-digit favorite over Michigan

Ohio State football is the No. 1 topic in Wake Up Sloopy every day — but we cover news, notes and analysis from across Buckeyes sports. Join us each morning to get caught up on everything you missed in the world of Ohio State football, recruiting, basketball and more.

Ohio State holds steady in polls

After a dominant 52-14 win against Illinois on Saturday, Ohio State stayed at No. 8 in the AP Top 25 released Sunday and at No. 8 in the Amway Coaches Poll.

The Buckeyes maintained their spot in the Land of 10’s Big Ten Power Poll released Sunday night, remaining a unanimous second-place team behind Wisconsin.

Buckeyes open as big favorites

Ohio State is a big betting favorite against Michigan as the Buckeyes look to win their sixth consecutive game against the Wolverines. The Buckeyes opened as 13-point favorites over Michigan when lines were released Sunday.

Don’t expect the Buckeyes to overlook the Wolverines, though. Senior defensive end Tyquan Lewis said after the win Saturday against Illinois that he was going home to watch Michigan film.

It’s trophy season at Ohio State

Ohio State won a trophy against Illinois, but the bigger ones are yet to come. The Illibuck once again resides in Columbus, but that also means the Buckeyes will be able to play for a conference championship — and possibly a national title.

“Yeah, the Illibuck is a huge thing. It’s part of this little rivalry we have with Illinois,” quarterback J.T. Barrett said. “It was a great moment to share that with the guys.

“But coach [Urban] Meyer talks about as warriors of this football game. We have a mission, you complete the mission, you celebrate and then you wait for your next directive. Tomorrow we’re going to be back at work.”
