Latest Ohio State football news

Ohio State is going to regroup after losing 31-16 to Oklahoma in a top-5 showdown. The Buckeyes still have two more nonconference games before running through Big Ten play. Ohio State (1-1) is also already 1-0 in conference play after beating Indiana, 49-21, in the season opener.

Though both the Buckeyes and Army have long, proud histories, they’ve never met in football.

Army last played a Power 5 school in 2016, when the Black Knights won at Wake Forest, 21-13. Army is also off to a strong start this season at 2-0. After beating Fordham, 64-6, the Black Knights rallied to beat Buffalo, 21-17. It’s the second second in a row Army is 2-0.

As for Ohio State, most eyes are on the quarterback situation. Senior QB J.T. Barrett struggled in the loss to Oklahoma, going 19-for-35 for 183 yards and 1 interception. He did have 66 rushing yards on 18 attempts. However, those rush attempts were more than running backs J.K. Dobbins and Mike Weber have combined (16).

5-star recruit Micah Parsons, a major Buckeyes target, said he would consider a change at quarterback, favoring Dwayne Haskins. But Ohio State coach Urban Meyer made clear that he’s sticking with Barrett at quarterback.

During Monday’s press conference, Meyer didn’t waver.

“Right now it’s not even a question,” Meyer said about the quarterback situation, meaning he was sticking with Barrett.

The veteran quarterback has a chance to improve his numbers this week against Army, which last played a ranked team in 2015. That year, Army lost to rival No. 21 Navy, 21-17.
