Tommy Togiai became the second-fastest freshman to ever lose his black stripe at Ohio State this week.

The fastest Ohio State freshman to lose his black stripe was Austin Mack, who received the honor on March 31, 2016.
That achievement comes with a tiny asterisk, since freshmen who don’t enroll early do not have the chance to lose their black stripe until preseason camp starts in August. Nonetheless, it’s an impressive accomplishment for the freshman defensive tackle. Plenty of other players have enrolled early at Ohio State in recent years, and Togiai beat out all but one.
Togiai committed to Ohio State in December, and enrolled for classes at Ohio State for the spring semester. Togiai was a 4-star recruit on the 247Sports composite database, which ranked him as the No. 55 recruit in the class.
