COLUMBUS, Ohio — Tuesday was another big day for Ohio State football, as the Buckeyes picked up a commitment from Toledo (Ohio) St. John’s Jesuit 4-star linebacker Dallas Gant.
His pledge, which came on his birthday, made him the 10th member of Ohio State’s Class of 2018, which is now the highest-rated Big Ten class in the 247Sports composite team rankings. Gant is the No. 5 outside linebacker and No. 126 overall prospect in the Class of 2018.
“It’s just the best place for me,” Gant said of Ohio State. “It’s at home; I’m not leaving the state. [Urban] Meyer is a great coach, and a great guy. I’ve developed a great relationship with [Buckeyes linebackers coach Billy] Davis, and there’s several other things about the people and [Columbus] in general.”
As could be expected, his commitment was huge news around the Ohio State football program. Here’s how recruits and players reacted, either in interviews with Land of 10 or via their Twitter accounts.
4-star DE Brenton Cox
“I think we’re building something special in the 2018 class. Everybody wants to be a part of something great so I’m excited to have all the good players coming to one program so we can be dominant.”
4-star ATH Jaelen Gill
“It means that our class is even greater than it already was. Dallas was a must get, not only because he’s a player from Ohio but because he’s a downright baller. Just watch the tape. Anyone would love to get a player like him, but unfortunately they can’t because we got ’em. We’re extremely excited!”
4-star OT Max Wray
“It’s awesome. He’s a great player and he fits our scheme and fills a position of need in our class. We’ve all wished Dallas happy birthday!”
