Ohio State coach Urban Meyer announced redshirt freshman Mike Weber will be the team’s starting running back.
“Just a minute ago, we named him starting tailback at Ohio State,” Meyer said.
On the Buckeyes’ depth chart released on Tuesday, the Buckeyes listed Weber or Curtis Samuel as the starter. But Meyer’s Wednesday announcement makes Weber the official starter.
Meyer said Weber’s last 10 days “have been outstanding.”
Weber was a 4-star recruit out of Detroit and was originally committing to Michigan before flipping to Ohio State. A knee injury last August set him back, but now he’s following former star Ezekiel Elliott as the Buckeyes’ starting running back.
Ohio State opens the season against Bowling Green at noon on Saturday.
