Ohio State coach Urban Meyer admits he teared up when Cleveland Cavaliers won NBA title
Urban Meyer was born in Toledo, Ohio. So naturally, the Buckeyes head coach got a bit emotional when the Cleveland Cavaliers broke the city’s 52-year championship drought by winning the NBA title in heroic fashion.
Meyer admitted that his eyes swelled up with tears when Kyrie Irving hit a three-point shot that essentially sealed the Game 7 victory over the Golden State Warriors in the waning seconds.
“When Kyrie hit that shot, a 51-yr-old man in Columbus, Ohio began to tear up,” Meyer said, according to Bleacher Report’s Ben Axelrod.
Meyer probably wasn’t the only fan to let out tears of joy and relief after LeBron James fulfilled his proclamation and brought home a title to Cleveland. Meyer even traveled to Cleveland to celebrate with the city during the championship parade.
Of course, Meyer brought the state of Ohio a championship when the Buckeyes captured the 2015 College Football Playoff national championship.
