After back-to-back rough seasons in 2016 and ’17, Ohio State basketball re-established itself as one of the top teams in the Big Ten in 2018.
Led by Big Ten Coach of the Year Chris Holtmann and Big Ten Player of the Year Keita Bates-Diop, the Buckeyes went 25-9 on the season and made the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2015. Ohio State even won its first game in the tournament, defeating South Dakota State in the first round, 81-73.
However, Ohio State’s run came to an end on Saturday, as the Buckeyes fell to Gonzaga, 90-84, in the Round of 32. Despite the tough loss, there is optimism surrounding the Ohio State program in regards to this season and in future seasons. Ohio State football coach Urban Meyer is among those that are optimistic for the team, as he took to Twitter to congratulate the Buckeyes on their surprise season.
