With Thad Matta out as Ohio State basketball coach, assistant Chris Jent could be headed for the door as well.
On Sunday, rising senior guard Kam Williams posted a photo of him and Jent on Instagram, with a caption that read, in part, “This man, in his short time here has impacted my life on so many levels. Just wanted to take this time to say Thank you Coach Jent.”
Jent coached at Ohio State in 2012 and 2013, then left to serve as an NBA assistant, before returning to Matta’s staff last year. He played professionally for 10 years and has coached at many levels, but his only experience as a head coach came with the NBA Developmental League’s Bakersfield Jam, for a single season.
He was reportedly a candidate to replace Matta as Buckeyes head coach.
Ohio State announced last Monday that Matta would not be returning for the 2017-18 season.
