Numbers show Urban Meyer’s supremacy in close games
Rest easy, Ohio State fans. When the clock is winding down and the score is tight, no Power Five team is in better hands.
CBS Sports’ Jon Solomon crunched the numbers on the records of current coaches in games decided by one touchdown or less, and it’s no surprise that Urban Meyer is at the top.
The Buckeyes are 13-2 (.867) in such contests since Meyer took the helm, a mark that is even better than his overall career win percentage in one-score games (34-13, .723).
The only FBS coach with a better mark is Old Dominion’s Bobby Wilder, who is 20-7 in his career.
Which other Big Ten teams have an edge in nail-biters?
Northwestern’s Pat Fitzgerald is second (34-21, .618), while Michigan State’s Mark Dantonio is third at .600 overall and 27-20 (.574) with the Spartans — including that fateful November win in Columbus last fall.
