My Senior Walk: Tate Martell, Bishop Gorman prepare for another top 5 test
Ohio State 2017 quarterback commitment Tate Martell, a two-time national champion at Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, has agreed to do a weekly journal of his senior season with the Gaels prior to his college enrollment in January.
Going, going, back, back to Cali
This is a huge week for my team.
We’re heading to California to play St. John’s Bosco, the highest-ranked team we will be playing this season and more than that there are a lot of guys over there that I’m pretty familiar with since I grew up in California. Their quarterback played on the same youth team as me, but always a grade younger. Then there are guys like Wyatt Davis, obviously, who is committed to Ohio State, too. I feel like we’ve put in the work and are prepared for the challenge. If we execute like we are capable of, it should be another dominant game from us this week. I really don’t think anyone can even be close to us if we play our best, and I realize people think that I’m always just cocky or something but I believe in our guys so much. If you ever go into a game believing you’re not the best team on the field, what’s the point?
We are currently No. 1 in every major rankings service and on a 41-game winning streak. We have played the No. 5 and No. 20 team ranked in the country and outscored them 90-24 in these two games, and I think we’re really clicking. We’ve got a bull’s-eye on our back every single week we go out there and that’s kind of motivating us, I think. I know it keeps us from getting lazy or taking anyone for granted. It’s a great feeling to be viewed as the best in the nation because you always know what you are playing for every single week. It makes us play better and it helps keep things in perspective. I know how lucky we are to be playing in a place that supports us the way our community does. We never want to let them down.
School has been going well, sometimes it’s hard to believe that I’m only going to be in high school for three more months, but I’m ready for the challenges that college will bring. I set my official visit to Ohio State for Nov. 5, the night we play Nebraska, and I couldn’t be more excited to get back to Ohio and especially for that game because I know we’ll have a lot of our commits and biggest remaining guys there that night.
When it comes to recruiting my safety, Bubba Bolden, just got offered by us yesterday. Tyjon (Lindsey), Haskell (Garrett) and myself are pressing really hard for him to come play with us, because he’s a great player. He would definitely help our amazing class we are already building and he’s as good as any safety in the country. I’m glad we offered him because I think there’s a real shot to land him. He’s got a lot of things to consider but Ohio State is the best school out there and I think he’ll see that if he comes to visit with us.
Thanks for reading again Buckeyes fans. I’ll talk to you next week. – TM
