A plane carrying six people from Cleveland to the Ohio State University Airport, where the aircraft is based, went missing over Lake Erie on Thursday night.
John Fleming, CEO of Superior Beverage Company, was flying the private plane, Fleming’s parents told the Toledo Blade. His wife, two teenage sons, the family’s neighbor and neighbor’s daughter were also on board.
Doug Hammon, director at the Ohio State airport, told CNN that the plane didn’t return on Thursday night.
The Blade reports the plane took off from Cleveland — the group had just attended the Cavaliers-Celtics game — at 10:50 p.m. ET on Thursday night, then went missing about 30 minutes later over Lake Erie.
Weather.com’s Linda Lam said there were wind gusts between 30 and 40 mph in the area at that time, plus light snow.
Bad weather prevented a boat search by the Coast Guard on Thursday night. As of Friday morning, it had found no signs of debris or an emergency beacon.
