Tight end Kierre Hawkins is transferring from Ohio State to Youngstown State, according to an Instagram post on Monday. His high school coach, Devlin Culliver of Maple Heights, confirmed the news to Cleveland.com’s Tim Bielek on Monday night.
Hawkins’ Instagram account is private, but here’s a screenshot from Rivals’ Ryan Donnelly:
The former four-star recruit is staying in-state after two seasons with the Buckeyes. Youngstown State is coached by none other than former Nebraska coach Bo Pelini.
Hawkins did not have a reception in his time at Ohio State. Along with Jake Hausmann and Luke Farrell, Hawkins was one of three tight end recruits to sign with Ohio State in 2016. He was also one of eight tight ends listed on Ohio State’s roster. The Buckeyes have a verbal commitment from Jeremy Ruckert, the top tight end in the 2018 recruiting class, so playing time may have been hard to get had Hawkins stayed.
