Jae’Sean Tate hit a spinning lay-in off the glass with 3 seconds remaining to give the Ohio State men’s basketball team a 71-70 victory against host Penn State on Tuesday night.

Tate’s big shot came after Penn State’s Tony Carr sank a 3-pointer from a foot beyond the arc to give the Nittany Lions a 70-69 lead with 11 seconds remaining in the game. Carr’s make marked Penn State’s first lead since the 7:06 mark of the second half.
A possession earlier, with the Buckeyes holding a 2-point advantage, Tate traveled with 28 seconds remaining to give Penn State the ball. Fortunately for Ohio State, the junior forward found a way to make up for his costly mistake.
Of the Buckeyes’ 17 Big Ten games this season, 11 have been decided by 6 or fewer points. With its victory against Penn State, Ohio State moves to 6-5 in such games, 7-10 in conference play and 17-13 overall.
The Buckeyes will close their regular season on Saturday with a 12 p.m. ET tipoff with Indiana in Columbus. After that, Ohio State will likely need a deep run in the Big Ten Tournament to have any sort of chance of making the Big Dance.
