House Martell? Take a look at the top targets of an Ohio State commit
When you’re the country’s top-ranked dual-threat quarterback and you’re committed to Ohio State, there’s a good chance that you’ve got a few guys on your list that you want to line up with in college. When you’re Las Vegas Bishop Gorman’s Tate Martell? You write out that list and you make sure the rest of the recruiting world is put on notice: these are your guys.
Earlier this week, Martell made headlines when he let Ohio State fans know they were on the verge of landing a big-time commitment and Thursday night he upped the ante, showing off the rest of his remaining targets for 2017.

Cam Akers, Wyatt Davis, Donovan Peoples-Jones, Trevon Grimes, Baron Browning, Jeffrey Okudah and Darnay Holmes are all 5-stars according the 247Sports.com composite rankings.Trey Smith, the offensive lineman from Tennessee, is 247Sports.com’s third-ranked overall prospect, Chase Young is a Scout.com 5-star and Lamont Wade is Rivals.com pick as the nation’s top cornerback. Emory Jones? He’s the country’s second-ranked quarterback in the 2018 class, so don’t think Martell is afraid to invite some competition into his own position room, either.
More remarkable than Martell’s high-profile list? There’s not really a “reach” in the bunch.
The Buckeyes have been at or near the top of the list for each player listed and he’s not even including standout prospects like Cincinnati Colerain’s Amir Riep or Cleveland’s Jaylen Harris, who have been on the Buckeyes board for months but Martell hasn’t gotten to know personally.
Right now, in what’s expected to be a class that finishes around 20 players, the Buckeyes have 13 commitments so it’s not likely that they’ll land all of Martell’s targets, but his ambition is worthwhile. If you examine the list a little bit deeper, you’ll see that Ohio State is potentially on the verge of something really special.
Is this year finally the year someone dethrones Alabama as the national recruiting champion?
No matter what happens during his time at Ohio State, if he’s able to help the Buckeyes land half of the players he’s aiming for, expect Tate Martell to be a fan favorite in Columbus.
