Gareon Conley is facing accusations of sexual assault, according to TMZ Sports. The former Ohio State cornerback is projected as a first-round pick in the NFL draft, which begins Thursday.
TMZ Sports broke the news about the accusations on Tuesday afternoon. CBS19 had issued a report on Monday afternoon saying a “top NFL Draft prospect was accused of sexual assault at a downtown Cleveland Hotel,” but the outlet did not release a name. TMZ is reporting that player is Conley.
No charges have been filed against Conley, who adamantly denied the allegations, per TMZ. From the report:
According to a police report filed in Cleveland, a 23-year-old white female told police Conley violated her in a hotel suite bathroom at a Westin hotel on April 9.
(…)The woman called 911 and described her assailant as a “black male who wouldn’t take his sunglasses off and had an Ohio State tattoo on his left forearm.”
CBS19 reported that the alleged incident happened on April 19 at the Westin. Kevin Spellacy, Conley’s lawyer, spoke with CBS19 and called the accusation “ludicrous.”
Before the report, Conley was expected to be among the top 20 picks in the draft. Marshon Lattimore, Conley’s Ohio State teammate and a projected top-10 draft pick, responded to the news on his Twitter account by saying women “try to ruin you.” His tweet has since been deleted.
