Elliot, the fourth overall pick in April’s NFL Draft by the Cowboys, leads the NFL with 1,005 rushing yards. His nine rushing touchdowns are tied for second-most in the league and his 5.1 yards per carry are the most for any back with at least 135 carries (he has 198, second in the NFL to Melvin Gordon’s 217).
Also on Wednesday, Elliot was named NFC Offensive Player of the Week after totaling 209 total yards (114 rushing, 95 receiving) and 3 touchdowns last week against the Steelers.
The last running back to win the MVP award was Adrian Peterson in 2012. Before that, no non-QB had won the award since Chargers RB LaDainian Tomlinson in 2006.
As you can see in the list above, Elliott is not the only Cowboys rookie with MVP odds. Naturally, Elliott and Prescott are also running 1-2 in Bovada’s odds to win Rookie of the Year, Elliott at -500 and Prescott at +275.
