Denzel Ward knew the perfect way to celebrate Mother’s Day this year. Ward, picked fourth overall by the Cleveland Browns in the 2018 NFL Draft, paid off his mom’s mortgage.
He opened up about the gift to his mother, Nicole Ward, in an interview on NFL Total Access on Tuesday night.

“I actually just did something for her for Mother’s Day,” Ward said. “I’m paying for her mortgage of her house. I’m paying her house off, so she doesn’t have to worry about that anymore.”

The former Ohio State cornerback doesn’t have to travel far to see most of his family with his new team. The former Ohio State cornerback grew up in Macedonia, Ohio, about 17 miles outside of Cleveland.
Ward, who lost his father, Paul, in 2016, has a close relationship with his mother. She wrote him a letter that he read shortly after being picked by the Browns last month.
