Ohio State’s 2017 “Buckeye Cruise for Cancer” raised more than $2.5 million for cancer research, according to the organization’s Twitter account.
The cruise, in its 10th year, has raised more than $8.5 million for the Ohio State Comprehensive Cancer Center via the Urban and Shelley Meyer Fund.
The “Buckeye Cruise” is a ship full of ex-Buckeyes and fans who gather to support the OSUCCC — James. According to Ohio State’s website, the fund is “dedicated to the recruitment of cancer research experts to The James, so that we continue to have the best and brightest minds at Ohio State.”

This year, 38 legendary Buckeye athletes, mostly football players, joined fans on the cruise. They included Ezekiel Elliott, Michael Thomas, Eli Apple, Archie Griffin, A.J. Hawk, Cardale Jones, Darron Lee, Ryan Shazier, Robert Smith, Bobby Carpenter and Beanie Wells.
