Ohio State named Associated Press No. 1 program of all time; 7 Big Ten schools in top 25
The Associated Press has been doing its Top 25 poll since 1936 and has released 1,103 total polls.
Since then, Ohio State has been college football’s best program, according to its Top 100, which came out Tuesday.
The model rewarded consistency, giving a team a point for each appearance in the poll, one point for ranking No. 1 and 10 points for a national title. There have only been three seasons since 1936 that Ohio State didn’t make at least poll.
Only 44 teams have ever been ranked No. 1.
Here’s how the Big Ten came in. Nebraska, of course, racked up most of its points before joining the Big Ten.
1. Ohio State
12. Penn State
19. Michigan State
