Ohio State football running back Antonio Williams is leaving the Buckeyes. Williams announced Monday that he is transferring from Ohio State to North Carolina.
On the depth chart behind J.K. Dobbins and Mike Weber, Williams rushed for 290 yards on 57 carries in 2017.

Williams thanked Urban Meyer and Ohio State running backs coach Tony Alford in his announcement.
“The Ohio State University has been a place that allowed me to grow tremendously as a man, make relationships that will last a lifetime, and reach some platforms that very few can say they have reached,” Williams wrote on Twitter. “I thank Coach Meyer for giving me the opportunity to be a part of the buckeye family, and I want to thank Coach Tony Alford for being who he has been to me. A father figure away from home, he provided me with guidance that very few are able to provide. …Though being at Ohio State provided me with the right path to reach those goals, the timing for me to be at OSU wasn’t the most ideal. With that being said, following this semester, I will be transferring to the University of North Carolina.”
Williams had a strong spring and was drawing praise from Ohio State coaches, but he chose to transfer and sit out the 2018 season. Without Williams, true freshman Master Teague should be in line to earn touches behind Dobbins and Weber.
