Former Ohio State CB Eli Apple’s mother to write weekly column for Sports Illustrated
Annie Apple may be more famous than her son, Eli, who was a top-10 pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.
Apple will write a weekly guest column for Sports Illustrated this fall, providing, in her words, “an authentic voice for sports families as well as a front row seat to the NFL transition for players and families.” Her column will debut on Sept. 6.
Per SI, the column will “offer a behind-the-scenes look at the unique experience of an NFL rookie mom, and include her poignant, unpredictable and often hilarious thoughts on topics that extend well beyond Giants football.”
The Giants took Eli Apple 10th overall in April’s draft, and his mother has shot to stardom since. Annie Apple wrote a well-received guest column for SI in April detailing his path to the NFL. In May, ESPN announced she would be a guest on Sunday NFL Countdown. She’s a pretty good Twitter follow, too — @survivinamerica.
Apple, from Vorhees, N.J., outside Philadelphia, played three seasons at Ohio State. He played two seasons in Columbus after redshirting in 2013 and was the Buckeyes’ defensive MVP in 2015. He was a 5-star prospect coming out of high school.
