Alonzo Gaffney, the No. 1 basketball prospect in Ohio for the 2019 recruiting class, was being recruited by blue-blood programs such as Kansas, North Carolina and Michigan State. However, the Cleveland native has decided to remain in his home state for college.
Gaffney announced Tuesday morning on Twitter that he has committed to Ohio State, stating, “There’s no place like home.”

Gaffney’s commitment is big for Ohio State basketball, which has struggled to bring in some of the nation’s top prospects in recent years.
According to 247Sports, Gaffney — who attends Garfield Heights High School — is a 5-star prospect. The 6-foot-9, 190-pound prospect is the No. 3-ranked power forward in his recruiting class.
Nationally, 247Sports ranks Gaffney the No. 18 recruit in the nation.
