A few days after de-committing from the Buckeyes, the top 2018 basketball recruit in Ohio is explaining his decision.
Darius Bazley, a 4-star small forward from Cincinnati, simply thinks Ohio State would not provide him with the best opportunity to showcase his skill set.
“At the end of the day I’ve got to perform no matter where I go, but I think there’s other schools out there that could put me on a bigger stage and in a better position to show those NBA scouts when I get to college what I can do,” he told the Columbus Dispatch.
His de-commitment was another blow for Thad Matta’s program, which has missed the last two NCAA Tournaments. D’Angelo Russell (second overall in 2015) was the only Ohio State player selected in the last three NBA Drafts.
Ohio State still has two recruits verbally committed in its 2018 class with 4-star guard Duane Goodwin and 3-star forward Justin Aherns. In the 2017 class, the Buckeyes have two commits: 4-star center Kaleb Wesson and 3-star guard Braxton Beverly.
