While Northwestern men’s basketball coach Chris Collins was delivering a speech to his players following their first-round victory over Vanderbilt in the NCAA Tournament on Thursday, a familiar face entered the locker room.
Wildcats football coach Pat Fitzgerald decided to make an appearance at the game and congratulated the team on a thrilling win. Considering that the program is an 11-point underdog in their second-round matchup with Gonzaga, the magic will need to carry over to Saturday.
In the 68-66 victory against Vanderbilt, Commodores guard Matthew Fisher-Davis committed a foul on Wildcats guard Bryan McIntosh despite his team holding a 1-point lead with 14 seconds to play. McIntosh subsequently knocked down a pair at the line to help his team advance. It was Northwestern’s first win in the Big Dance.
