Charles Schmidt capped off a weekend Northwestern visit the best way possible — he committed.
The 3-star offensive guard said on Sunday that he’s committed to the Wildcats.
“I’m thankful for my family, my teammates, my coaches, and all of the other schools that have recruited me,” Schmidt shared on Twitter. “I’m proud to announce my commitment to Northwestern University. Go cats!”

Schmidt, from Libertyville, Ill., is listed at 6-foot-4 and 270 pounds. 247 Sports rates him as Illinois’ No. 18 recruit for the 2018 class. Nationally, he’s No. 42 as an offensive guard.
The lineman is Northwestern’s third commit for the 2018 class. Fellow 3-star recruits QB Jason Whittaker and OT Payne He’Bert have also pledged.
Wildcats coach Pat Fitzgerald retweeted Schmidt’s announcement. The recruiting win follows Northwestern’s 7-6 2016 season. The Wildcats upset a ranked Pitt team 31-24 in the Pinstripe Bowl. It was the Wildcats’ second bowl win in five seasons.
