Just days after Northwestern LB Anthony Walker announced he would declare for the NFL Draft, Walker’s friend and teammate Godwin Igwebuike announced Sunday that he came to a very different decision.
Igwebuike, a junior safety, tweeted Sunday that he will be back for 2017: “Excited to work towards winning a Big10 championship next year w these boys. Go Cats! #PinstripeChamps #ToBeContinued.”

With Igwebuike staying in school, Northwestern will return its entire secondary in 2017 with CB Keith Watkins back from injury.

After redshirting his freshman year, Igwebuike has started for most of the past three seasons, racking up 246 tackles and 5 interceptions. This season, he led the Wildcats with 108 tackles.
According to the Chicago Tribune, Igwebuike and Walker both requested feedback from the NFL Draft Advisory Board. Before Walker declared for the draft on Friday, no player from Northwestern had entered the draft early in 20 years.
