Northwestern loses to Illinois State on last-second field goal
Northwestern’s season could not be off to a worse start.
After a loss to Western Michigan last week, the Wildcats were back at Ryan Field on Saturday, where they were 12.5-point favorites against Illinois State, an FCS squad.
Northwestern’s offense sputtered all afternoon, and it bit Pat Fitzgerald’s squad, as Illinois State won, 9-7, on a 33-yard field goal as time expired. Watch the video below:

The Wildcats had just 277 yards on offense against the Redbirds, who were picked to finish fourth this season in the Missouri Valley Conference. It was Illinois State’s first win against a Big Ten program.
Northwestern, now 0-2, plays host to Duke next week before starting Big Ten play.
